San Francisco 2008

The 2008 seminar took place at a time when the world was beginning to shift direction. It was the year when the platform economy, customer experience, and digital collaboration began to take shape—long before we understood what they would come to mean. For me, it was an encounter with a new reality: how technology, people, organizations, and culture come together to form a single ecosystem of innovation.

San Francisco 2008 was not just about professional learning. It was about seeing the contours of the future—before it arrived.

Day 1

Illustration of a stack of books used as a symbol of knowledge, learning, academic exploration, and reflection. The image represents how insight is built layer by layer through experience, research, literature, and the sharing of knowledge—core values in the work of digitalization, innovation, and professional development.

The first day focused on why Silicon Valley became the world’s most productive innovation ecosystem. We saw how the interaction between academia, entrepreneurs, investors, and culture creates momentum, learning, and new ideas. This was the day when innovation became firmly grounded in people and organizations.

Day 2

Illustration of a light bulb used as a symbol of idea development, innovation, and insight. The image represents how data, services, and customer insight became increasingly important drivers of the digital economy—where technology was no longer just about systems, but about understanding people, needs, and value creation.

Day 2 took us inside Google’s world—where the platform economy, data, and experimentation form the foundation for growth. It became clear how small ideas can become global services when culture, technology, and organizational structures all move in the same direction.

Day 3

Minimalist illustration of a globe used as a symbol of international collaboration, globalization, knowledge sharing, and worldwide digital development. The icon represents how technology, trade, innovation, and communication connect people, businesses, and societies across national borders. Its timeless design makes the illustration well suited for professional topics related to the global economy, digitalization, and global markets.

Day 3 showed how the digital customer experience was evolving—from visual e-commerce to multichannel behavior and global customer service centers.

This was the day we realized that customer experience is not a single function, but an entire value chain.

Day 4

Minimalist illustration of a shopping cart with a shopping bag, used as a symbol of e-commerce, online shopping, and the digital customer journey. The icon represents the evolution of modern commerce, where technology, user experience, and accessibility come together in digital shopping experiences. The illustration features a clean, timeless design suited to professional topics related to digitalization, omnichannel, and innovation.

Day 4 brought the different perspectives together into a bigger picture: from multichannel to omnichannel, from research to commercialization, and from technology to organization. Here, innovation was placed in the broader context of culture, strategy, and society.

Cross-Cutting Professional Themes

Minimalist illustration of a computer screen used as a symbol of digitalization, websites, technology, and digital user experiences. The icon represents how information, services, and communication increasingly take place through digital interfaces and screens. Its simple, timeless design makes the illustration well suited for professional topics related to web development, e-commerce, innovation, and digital transformation.

This section brings the entire seminar together. It explores ecosystems, platform logic, customer experience, global organization, and Scandinavian innovation culture—professional themes that run across all the seminar days and reveal the bigger picture of the 2008 program.

Summary

Illustration of a smartphone used as a symbol of mobile technology, accessibility, and digital user experiences. The image represents how mobile interfaces have become a natural part of everyday life, and how services, information, and communication must be adapted to people on the go—simple, intuitive, and accessible.

The summary brings together the insights from the entire week: that innovation happens through interaction, that customer experience is value creation, and that data, people, and organizations must work as one system. It was in 2008 that we first saw the contours of the future as we know it today.
