Technical terms
Here we begin to approach what actually makes things work – or not work. From design and digital development to data and decisions. Many of the terms are used daily, but rarely explained. Here we make an attempt to do just that – without making it more complicated than necessary.

Data-driven
Decisions made based on data and insight, rather than gut feeling. Used in everything from marketing to product development.
Design Thinking
A problem-solving method that places the user at the centre. It combines insight, idea development and testing.
Disruptive innovation
When new solutions change the market by challenging established players and business models.
E-commerce (online shopping)
Buying and selling goods and services through digital channels.
Engagement
The user’s involvement and interaction with a service or content.
Ecosystem
A network of products, services and actors that are interconnected and create value for the user.
Funnel (sales funnel)
Describes the steps from awareness to action, for example from a visit to a purchase.
Freemium
A business model in which a basic version is free, while advanced features require payment.
Frontend / Backend
Frontend is what the user sees and experiences. Backend is the systems and logic behind it.
